So this is a collection of different porting methods for inspiration.
There's a good writeup on a ported S&W 500 at: http://www.gunblast.com/SW-500.htm
Some nice big ports (or is this a compensator?):
Gemini custom porting on a GP100. I'm wondering how much velocity you lose with the ports essentially all the way down the short barrel.
Seems to be a standard configuration at Gemini: http://www.geminicustoms.com/Revolvers%20&%20Services.htm
The holes look a bit chamfered at the top:
And a final one from gemini (nice fiberoptic!)
Here's taurus' version. They take a slice out of the barrel first:
Standard magna-port with the parallelogram slots. They use an EDM machine, so we're out of luck on stealing ideas:
Nice clean revolver (sandblasted finish?). Again has the ports all the way down the barrel.
Interesting: row down both sides of front sight. Usually seem to be more at an angle:
This pattern seems to be standard to taurus:
From speedshooters international. Looks like the ports were integral to the manufacture:
Interesting article on ported shotgun: http://www.shootingtimes.com/gunsmoke/0712/index.html
Looks like magna-port, so I assume is EDM:
Interesting rifle porting from J White: http://www.jwhitegunsmithing.com/jimsrecentwork.html
This is pretty cool looking, but I have no idea if it's a good idea:
Looks like a shotgun:
Compensator with ports: http://www.dtechsuperstore.com/mili%20Guns.htm
Interestingly, seems like he's cutting with an endmill:
Another interesting set of shotgun ports http://www.shooterssolutionsllc.com/gpage4.html
TJ custom gunworks: http://www.tjscustomgunworks.com/Photos4/5-ports.htm
He recommended using a 4 flute endmill, but thought that nothing was going to beat EDM for cleanliness.
More shotgun porting: http://www.paladinarmory.com/Services.htm
Some big fat 1911 ports. Should be easy to deburr even if you mess up:
And here's S&W's solution. Port, then bore out the internals:
Vang comp shotgun porting:
Nice looking ar-15:
